Outdoor Warning Siren Testing

 

The outdoor warning sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of the month at 12:00 noon.

 

Each test includes a voice instruction activation, followed by the actual siren.

Outdoor Warning Siren (OSW) Activation Guidelines

All communities vary specific criteria for activating OWS, there are some commonalities in determining activation guidelines.

The following are minimum activation guidelines.

        • The National Weather Service issues a Tornado or Severe Thunderstorm Warning with the phrase “Destructive winds in excess of 70mph or higher in or within 5 miles of our jurisdiction.”
        • Trained storm splatters have reported a tornado in the jurisdiction that will potentially affect our community.
        • Reported hail of 1.25? in diameter or greater. (Half Dollar Size)
        • Other emergency as directed by the community’s elected officials.
        • Destructive or life threatening flooding is occurring or imminent within the city.
