The City of Lavon is seeking a qualified candidate to administer all functions of the Lavon Volunteer Fire Department under the direction of the City Administrator.
Supervises and coordinates the Lavon Volunteer Fire Department; serves as a member of the management team; prepares and presents the annual departmental budget; reviews departmental performance and effectiveness; formulates department’s programs and/or policies to alleviate deficiencies. Prepares a variety of reports for the City Administrator, City Council and state and local authorities; plans departmental operation with respect to equipment, apparatus and personnel; supervises the implementation of such plans; assigns personnel and equipment to such duties and uses as the service requires. Insures Fire Department personnel perform at a high level of service, fulfilling the mission and specific purposes of the 25+ member Volunteer Fire Department.
Serves as the City’s Emergency Manager. Coordinates and participates in the delivery of firefighting services. Coordinates and participates in the delivery of emergency medical services (EMS). Responds to fire and emergency scenes to ascertain the conditions and activities surrounding the incident.
Experience And Training
Associate’s Degree (Bachelor’s preferred) in Fire Science, Public Administration or a closely related field; and eight (8) years of experience in a paid Fire Department, at least four (4) of which were in a command or leadership position; and completion of the Fire Basic Training Academy or equivalent. At the discretion of the City Administrator, applications with equivalent combination of education, training and experience to the standards above may be considered.
Certified TCFP Structural Firefighter II. Certified Texas DSHS Emergency Medical Technician Basic (Paramedic Preferred). Certified TCFP Fire Instructor I (II Preferred). Certified TCFP Fire Officer I. Possess or achieve within one year the Head of Department certification. Preferred: possess or be willing to obtain certification as: FEMA ICS 100-800; TCFP certified Fire Inspector and plans examiner within two years.
Valid Class C Driver’s License required, Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred. Certified TCFP Driver Operator (Pumper) preferred. Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Lavon.
The work hours for this position shall be generally day shift from 0800 to 1700 Monday through Friday. Actual working hours will be based on the needs of the position and may include assignments and callouts during evening and weekends as required. This position is classified as salary exempt and is paid on a fourteen day pay period. This Position does not receive overtime or comp-time for hours greater then eighty (80) in a pay period. This position receives City paid holidays off. This position receives paid vacations.
Salary is dependent on qualifications, education, training and experience.
