Parks & Recreation Board

Charter

The Parks and Recreation board works with the Lavon City Council and other statutory boards to create places of recreation and relaxation for the citizens of Lavon. The scope of the P&R board includes the following;

  • utilizing existing city land for parks and other related uses,
  • creation and organization of city wide events and festivals,
  • organization of recreational activities to be held in the city hall/community center.

Parks & Recreation Board Meetings

Meetings of the board are generally held at 7pm on the last Monday of each month. Meeting’s are held in the Lavon City Hall, 120 School Road. When required, special meetings may be called by the Chair with 72 hours notice. Official meeting notices and agendas are posted on the front doors of City Hall, on the City bulletin board and on this website at least 72 hours prior to each meeting. Lavon residents and visitors are welcome to attend.

Organization

The board consists of five (5) members who are appointed by the City Council for two-year terms of office. Places 1, 3, and 5 are appointed in odd-numbered years, and Places 2 and 4 in even-numbered years. Terms begin in July of each year.

The City Manager (or designee) and Director of Public Works serve on the board as ex-officio members.

The Parks & Recreation Board depends on residents who volunteer their time and expertise.
